Pick and choose from a full schedule of break out classes including understanding gauge, seaming, blocking, picking up stitches, cabling without a cable needle, brioche, short rows, steeking, colorwork, as well as specific one on one sessions about literally anything you want to learn about!

“Back in 2009 I started my blog, Grainline Studio, as a creative outlet while working as a pattern maker in Chicago. Sensing a hole in the home sewing market, I launched our first pattern in 2011 and things took off from there! I’m passionate about teaching and firmly believe that sewing isn’t hard, you just need to take things one step at a time, figure out what works for you, and that the best tip anyone can give is to practice.

I also believe that there isn’t one technique that works for every person and that’s what’s so great about sewing – the multitude of different ways that can work to achieve the same outcome. Attaching a waistband? Jen can help you through it. You’ll be able to pop into demos or skip them and keep sewing away!

Knitting & Natural Dyeing Retreat!

Knitting: Get hands on instruction focused on exactly what you need for your next project or projects. Natural Dyeing: We’ll be foraging around the property and learning about what items in nature create different colors in yarn. You’ll then have hands on dyeing instruction, and be able to learn how to use your yarn in your future projects throughout the weekend! As part of your registration you’ll get 5 fingering weight mini skeins, 2 fingering weight full skeins to dye, an apron to keep your me mades clean, as well as an opportunity to purchase more yarn to dye throughout the weekend.

A little more about Jennifer! She is the founder of Workroom Social, a sewing studio based in Brooklyn, New York. She believes that everyone can lead a joyful, creative, and confident life, and that sewing your own clothes (and wearing these you-made clothes) is a surefire way to find joy, creativity, and confidence every day. Jennifer is on a mission to build communities, stimulate creativity, and build self-esteem by empowering her students to sew clothes they're proud to wear.

At this retreat we will sew some jeans! Jennifer will be teaching her own pattern, the super cute Claryville Jeans. Knitting & Natural Dyeing Retreat!

Knitting: Get hands on instruction focused on exactly what you need for your next project or projects. Pick and choose from a full schedule of break out classes including understanding gauge, seaming, blocking, picking up stitches, cabling without a cable needle, brioche, short rows, steeking, colorwork, as well as specific one on one sessions about literally anything you want to learn about!

Natural Dyeing: We’ll be foraging around the property and learning about what items in nature create different colors in yarn. You’ll then have hands on dyeing instruction, and be able to learn how to use your yarn in your future projects throughout the weekend! As part of your registration you’ll get 5 fingering weight mini skeins, 2 fingering weight full skeins to dye, an apron to keep your me mades clean, as well as an opportunity to purchase more yarn to dye throughout the weekend.

• We will be following CDC and local guidance for gatherings. If at any point community spread increases and/or new restrictions are put in place that result in this retreat being cancelled, all attendees will receive a refund minus a 5% processing fee.

• All surfaces and spaces will be sanitized before and after each workshop, gathering, meal, etc. We will be limiting the use of shared tools/ surfaces whenever possible.

• This policy will be updated as CDC & local guidance changes.
